Used Boat Prices

Used Boat Prices

Just like in the used car business, dealers, traders and agents in the used boat trading business in the UK rely on a standard or uniform used boat price book to set the retail prices for the used boats they are brokering.

The used boat price guide is also the basis for insurance companies to determine the appropriate package for a used boat, and how the UK tax bureau calculate tax obligations for the new owners. Marine agencies distribute this guide book annually.

Used boat prices in the UK are given in ranges or the average market value for a set of used boats, which are grouped according to batch (year), model, maker, and class, among other categories.

However, the used boat price guidebook is not always the actual price upon which the buying-selling negotiation is sealed. Professional used boat brokers and traders agree that the prices listed are not the eventual selling price. This is because there are variables that will likely affect the used boat price listing, like the present condition of the boat, its history (how often and for what purpose was it used), or modifications and alterations made to the boat, if any.

As such, not all models of the Sealine S34 used boats belonging to batch 2007 will have the same used boat price, if modifications like engine (Volvo or Valiant), upholstery, and high-end features (air-conditioning or generators) are taken into consideration.

Current used boat prices as found in UK's Boat Shop 24 (www.boatshop24.co.uk) listed a general escalating range: Eur 5,000 (minimum), 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, 30,000, 40,000, 50,000, up to 60,000 as the average value for standard boat models.

However, there are use boat prices that can go over a million Euros, like those ultra high-end luxury lines such as the three-cabin boat Azimut 58 (Eur 1.4 million) and the four-cabin Sunseeker Yacht 82 MKII (Eur 1.6 million).
